Al & Sally’s Motel : Michigan City, Indiana
Al & Sally’s: A restored roadside motel with lots of vintage charm.
Location: Michigan City, IN
Cost: ~$150-250
Our Overall Rating: 4/5
This was another nice surprise on our trip through Indiana. It’s a roadside motel just off the highway and it’s been restored in recent years. The neon sign out front is so cool and the rooms were clean and cozy! They did have some mention of upcoming bathroom remodels too so it seems like they’re a work in progress but the experience was really nice. It’s also really close to the dunes and some beautiful beaches!! Only downside is that there was no one around the office and some nights require a 2-night minimum, but we also went in winter which is really the off-season there so I imagine it’s more lively in the warmer months!
Cleanliness Rating: 4/5
Still some vintage wear and tear but really clean otherwise!

The Grain Bin : Missouri Valley, Iowa
The Grain Bin: A grain bin that’s been turned into the coziest getaway in Iowa!
Location: Missouri Valley, IA
Cost: ~$200/night, usually require a 2-night minimum.
Our Overall Rating: 5/5
This was such a fun place to stay on our drive through Iowa! Considering you pass by hundreds of grain bins, it was really fun to suddenly pull over and sleep in one. The inside is so well designed and very cozy. The kitchen was functional, the bathroom was spacious, and we slept quite well. Although we did have to put some chairs in front of the staircase since Corey sleep walks and we worried about those spiral steps. lol! All in all such a fun and comfy getaway! Also – if you like raccoons and/or cats…you should go eat dinner at the Alpine Inn just 20 minutes down the road in Omaha…!
Cleanliness Rating: 5/5
Very clean and clearly cared for!

Comfort Suites North : Elkhart, Indiana
Comfort Suites North: A basic motel with a few classic themed rooms from the 90s or early 2000s.
Location: Elkhart, IN
Cost: ~$250 for a theme room.
Our Overall Rating: 4/5
Ok look, I know it’s just a basic motel…but we stayed in their Hawaiian room and were so pleasantly surprised at the shape it was in! You never know what you’re going to find but we loved that the flooring had clearly been updated (but not in a way that ruined the room!) and everything was maintained well. They also let us peek inside the kind of Roman-themed room and that looked really good too! This was a really fun and pleasant surprise on our trip through Indiana.
Cleanliness Rating: 4/5
Wear and tear of the room and bathroom, but nothing that ruined the stay and themed elements.
Favorite Room: Hawaiian room!

Berlin Woods Treehouse / Amish Country Lodging : Millersberg, Ohio
Berlin Woods Treehouse / Amish Country Lodging: A neighborhood of vacation rentals that are a variety of treehouses, cabins, and an A-frame.
Location: Berlin, OH
Cost: ~$300/night
Our Overall Rating: 5/5
I know this isn’t a themed location, but for a cute and cozy cabin getaway, this place was really lovely. I loved the treehouses but we stayed in the Skyview A-frame which was quite huge and accommodating for a big group. The hot tub and fire place were nice, the bedrooms were spacious, the bathrooms were quite luxurious, and the kitchen and dining area was huge! My only note is that the spiral staircase was a little scary.
Cleanliness Rating: 5/5
I honestly felt like it was so clean, we had to be the first people to stay there. Or maybe they just do an incredible job cleaning!
Favorite Room: The funny thing is, our favorite room was the one all the way upstairs, but Corey sleep walks and we were worried about the spiral staircase at night so…we took the downstairs bedroom lol

The Inn & Spa at Intercourse Village: A charming and romantic bed and breakfast in Amish country that features a heart-shaped tub.
Location: Intercourse, PA
Cost: ~$250-300/night
Our Overall Rating: ?/5
We didn’t have time to stay the night but thought this place was so cute and charming! They had a maroon heart shaped tub in the Summer House Suite so obviously we’ll have to head back to Intercourse soon to try it out.

Again – didn’t stay the night, but it looks very elegant!
